It's parent survey time.  Please take a moment to fill the survey out.  When you have finished the survey, print out the last page and send it to school with your child.  Your child will get a mechanical pencil for brining the form in!

STAR TESTING:

Dear Parents,
It has come to my attention that many of you are having your students study for the upcoming STAR test. Please let me remind you of a number of things that I talked about at back to school night.

1. The STAR test IS NOT equivalent to end of year exams.

2. The scores your child gets on their STAR test has NO bearing on what math class they get into in middle or high school.

3. The ONLY test that has ANY BEARING on your child's college career is the SAT test taken in high school.

4. I will teach them EVERYTHING they need to know for the STAR test.

5. The STAR test prep books do not cover the subjects covered on the test.

6. Having your child study for the test will only stress them out. They cannot cram all the information I am teaching them plus the information from a STAR study book into their brains, and remember all of it.

7. The ONLY score that matters is the scores on their report cards. This shows how well your child has done all year and is the best measure of their growth.

8. The STAR test measures how good of a test taker your child is.

9. I will provide your child with a review packet for Language Arts & Math a couple of weeks before the test.

10. Your child's STAR score is JUST A NUMBER. (I tell parents to brag to their friends about.:-))

PLEASE DO NOT attach a reward to your child's score (i.e., a new video game, not playing outside all summer, etc.) Celebrate that they took the test, NOT the score!

NEEDED: Old iphones/ipod touches, these are great to put educational apps on for kids.  I would like to eventually get  an entire class set.  If you have any old iphones or ipod touches that you are going to get rid of, I would love to have them!  Thanks
